The deadline for submitting revised papers has now passed.
Technical Themes
The main technical themes for the conference include:
- Developments in CO2 capture technology. This theme will cover:pre-combustion, post-combustion, oxyfuel technologies and mineralisation technologies; techno-economic comparisons; advanced solvents; chemical looping; membranes; novel systems; experiences; costs; outlook for significant cost reductions; retrofitting; capture ready constructions.
- Developments in CO2 storage This theme will cover: natural gas fields; oil field; coal fields; saline aquifers, ocean storage, other options as well as: storage options; storage capacities; field studies; well bore and reservoir integrity; trapping mechanisms; site characterisation; site selection; modelling tools; costs; environmental impacts; reservoir engineering; risk assessment; inherent safety.
- CCS infrastructure and system integration. This theme will cover: the role of CCS in future energy systems; transportation of CO2; CO2 quality issues; health and safety issues; integrated systems; need for flexibility; source-sink matching and Life Cycle Analysis.
- Towards negative CO2 emissions. This theme will include the potential, costs and development of biomass energy use combined with CCS, capturing CO2 from the air and the potential of different mineralisation routes.
- CO2 utilisation options. This theme will cover: Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR); Enhanced Gas Recovery (EGR); Enhanced Coal Bed Methane recovery (ECBM); horticultures; algae; chemicals.
- Relation between CCS and Energy and Climate policies. The theme will include issues such as implementing the Copenhagen agreement; scenario studies; policy approaches; comparisons with other mitigating options; non-CO2 greenhouse gas emission reduction; policy instruments; regulatory frameworks; CCS obligations; Emission Trading Schemes (ETS); carbon tax; Joint Implementation (JI); Clean Development Mechanism; CCS technology transfer and capacity building in the area of CCS.
- Legal aspects of CCS and long term liability of CO2 storage. This theme will cover: monitoring, verification and accounting techniques (primary, secondary and potential additional technologies; pre-operation, operation, closure and post-closure monitoring; mitigation strategies; Environmental Impact Statement (EIS)).
- Public perception and acceptance of CCS, communication on CCS and capacity building. This theme will cover scientific research on public perception and practical experience on communication CCS.
- Major national and international programmes on CCS research and demonstration. This theme will include: programme overviews; major achievements; outreach activities, lessons learnt and CCS in China.
- CCS demonstration projects. This theme will cover: new developments; financial and investment issues; experiences; lessons learnt and development of best practice guidelines.
