GHGT-11 Host city of Kyoto

Kyoto was the imperial capital of Japan for 1,200 years form 794 to 1868 and is now a modern city with a population of 1.5 million boasting 17 UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Sites. The city is dominated by 2,000 temples and shrines with ample opportunity to sample the rich culture through Tea Ceremonies, Sake Brewing, Kimono Wearing, Swordsmanship etc.

Kyoto is just 75 minutes form Kansai International Airport (Osaka) and the compact city offers great accessibility to all areas with almost any two points within the city no more than 30 minutes travel away.

Public Transport

Kyoto is serviced by Japan Railway trains, Shinkansen bullet trains as well as the Kinetetsu, keihan, Hankyu and other local trains, the city subway system and an extensive bus network. Bus destinations are posted in both Japanese and English. Subway stations are numbered and also have signs in English as well as Japanese, Chinese and Korean. Stops are announced in English and Japanese on the Trains making navigating public transport easy for visitors.

As November sees the wonderful display of autum leaves it is very popular with tourist, we recommend using the subway/ train for travel as the roads can become very busy.
